I’m often asked how I got into this business, and it was simple. I was in London and Ricky Gervais was due to visit a nearby venue. As always, he had a large number of devoted fans waiting to greet him. They mistook me for him and all came running over, mobbing me! This caused a traffic jam resulting in total mayhem. More importantly they would not believe that I wasn’t him!

So, I thought having the all the attributes of David Brent - modesty, good looks, a born leader, popular with staff and an intellectual, in other words a perfect specimen - I decided to become David Brent.
